Can you answer this question? Think of times in your life when you have experienced Grace in a tangible way. When have you felt the love, compassion and forgiveness of God so strongly it drove you to look away from yourself and situation and to be held completely captive by Him and his majesty? Was it during times when life was ordinary and good, or was it during times of trials, hardships and sin? For me it is almost always during the latter. It’s when we are at our worst that God meets us the most (or at least that’s how we perceive it)
Think of all of the stories in the Bible, both Old and New Testament, where God broke into the lives of those who knew they were deep in sin.
The first story that comes into my mind is that of David and Bathsheba. You can read this story in 2 Samuel 12. Although God promised serious consequences because of David’s sin, the greatest consequence, his eternal standing with God, was made right. In 2 Samuel 12:13 the prophet Nathan tells David ‘the Lord also has put away your sin; you shall not die.’ This is awesome and counter intuitive. There was no eye for an eye. There was no revenge. At least not on David… Revenge for this sin was gotten but in the most unlikely place. On Jesus revenge was taken. On Jesus David’s sin was placed. On Jesus our sins are placed and the revenge that should be taken on us has been taken on Him.
This is just one of many stories in the Bible where God shows us a glimpse of his amazing grace when we need it most. For other stories of sinners being saved see: The Holy Bible
