If you are anything like me you listen to a lot of sermons, follow a lot of tweets and read the odd blog. You are probably aware of the resurgence of churches getting back to the Gospel. Terms like ‘Gospel Centered’ or ‘Christ Centered’ are being thrown around left and right these days. This is a great and awesome thing! However, we must be aware that not everything shrouded in the name of the Gospel is really the Gospel. Here is one thing we should use as our guide when trying to determine if a sermon, tweet, blog or anything else claiming to be Gospel/Christ centered is in fact what it claims to be.
1. Did what you listen to or read leave you focused on what Christ has already done for you or leave you thinking of all the things you need to do?
Focused on what Christ has already done for you = Gospel was communicated
Thinking of all the things you need to do = Gospel wasn’t communicated
